Bono and The Edge Awaken The Meadowlands

U2 arrived in the Meadowlands ready to prove that they are still the “greatest rock band in the world” Bono reached into his pocket; pulled a sheet paper out that was an old set list, which dates back some 30 years to a club that has long been gone, yet we are still here said Bono.

Reviews are still coming in, yet some of the press has failed to understand that the tour has been around the world and they are on the home mile. Of course, the show is a visual masterpiece unlike any other show that has been played at here, yet the boys seemed a bit disharmonious.

Bono was a bit chattier – referencing the tour equipment and the lengths to which the tour has gone. The boys are about 2 years late in their arrival. The set list has followed the last couple of shows. Fans enjoyed the experience.   The band has gigs in Minneapolis and Pittsburgh before wrapping up its road run at the Magnetic Hill Music Festival in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Delayed Until 2012

Irish rockers U2 have postponed the release of their latest album, due to troubles with their ‘Spider-Man’ musical. The band, who have been in the studio working on the follow-up to 2009’s “No Line On The Horizon” , now aim to have the new album out by next year.

“We had to have a meeting and look at the schedule to see if we could pick up any extra time to work on it. We just realised that we couldn’t. To be honest, everyone was a bit gutted. But it was the only sensible decision,” U2 bassist Adam Clayton  told  Rolling Stone.

Remember RedOne the producer that worked on a couple of tunes with the boys? Well, Clayton said that:

”We have to focus on what we do best, and the work we did with Danger Mouse came closest to that. In the end, the thing we did with RedOne doesn’t feel like the right fit.”

RedOne works include Lady Gaga, and Ms Lopez and Danger Mouse - So for now we wait 2012 for a new album and you can expect the full power of the marketing machine behind them.

Spidey is expected to arrive June 14th and you can bet that Bono and The Edge will be happy that its finally ready to go - The preview season was longer than most runnings on Broadway. So lets get it running

U2’s Bono makes diva demands

U2’s BonoDiva alert: U2 front man Bono dined with bandmate Edge at Butter on Tuesday night, and another person dining there says he had more than a few demands.

“He wanted Perrier, which they didn’t have, so a waiter actually ran across the street to a store and bought him a bottle,” says a patron at the next table.

That wasn’t all. Bono needed his food prepared specially. “He demanded that his salad be chopped,” says the spy. “And he made sure it was when it arrived.”

U2 fans stayed out of the Fray

The FrayU2 fans just dodged a bullet. The Irish foursome’s gig at the new TCF Bank Stadium is still four months away — June 27 to be exact — but they’ve just announced the support band, and it’s New York neo-goths Interpol.

I liked Interpol better the first time around, when the band was called Joy Division, but still, it could have been much, much worse. How much worse? Well, Oakland, Seattle and Edmonton are getting, gulp, painfully boring soft-rockers the Fray. Retro-loving Lenny Kravitz is on the bill in several other cities, and he’s probably the most entertaining of all three opening acts.

If Interpol seems like an odd choice for U2, keep in mind that Bono and Co. were huge Joy Division fans from the start. They were reportedly watching in the studio when Joy Division recorded “Love Will Tear Us Apart” and hired that song’s producer to helm their next single, 1980’s “11 O’Clock Tick Tock.” And the U2 single that followed that, “A Day Without Me,” was a tribute to Joy Division leader Ian Curtis, who by that time had committed suicide. (For those keeping track, Interpol lead singer Paul Banks was 2 years old at the time.)

Speaking of TCF Bank Stadium, could we see a second concert there in 2010? Keep in mind this is speculation on my part, but Sir Paul McCartney has announced the first two dates of what his publicists are calling an “extensive”

MALIBU, Calif. — The house that the U2 guitarist longs to build here would have a copper roof, fashioned to resemble fluttering leaves. Boulders that dot the property would be left in place and assigned charming names like Dinosaur Vertebrae and Cistern. The dirt dug up to build would be reused, when possible.

Steve LillywhiteWe’ve seen a few big names bandied about for the role of next Simon Cowell, including Tommy Mottola, Guy Oseary, Jimmy Iovine, and, most notably, Howard Stern. But seeing as American Idol appears no closer to actually naming a successor, a new contender has thrown his hat in the ring: Steve Lillywhite, the 55-year-old British producer most closely associated with U2, released a YouTube video last week stating his case, and has followed it up today with an interview with Idol Tracker. For the record, Lillywhite — who has also produced the Pogues, She & Him, 30 Seconds to Mars, Guster, Jason Mraz, the one Chris Cornell solo album not everyone hated, most of the big Dave Matthews Band albums plus one that was never released, and a Rolling Stones album from 1986 — is dead serious.

OneRepublic to open for U2 in Munich

OneRepublicThe Universal Music Group newsletter featured OneRepublic outlining the tour schedule for the group and what did we find deep within that newsletter ? Yes, OneRepublic will be the support act opening for U2 on September 15, 2010 in Munich. The details not fully outlined within the newsletter, stand by as we collect more info. Its seems that the boys plan to mix up the tour just a bit with couple of different supporting acts. For those of you keeping track at home here is what we have for opening acts so far.

Bono's Top Ten Moves - Bone Head and all

1. The Spidey

If Bono were a bit younger, he could audition for the title character in his own Broadway show and get the part. In his never-ending desire to connect with his audience, Bono was notorious for climbing up, climbing down, or swinging from anything he could get his hands on, including light rigging, speaker stacks, fences, sculptures, and at the US Festival in the mid-'80s, the huge banner that hung behind the stage. While Bono insisted on defying gravity, the rest of the band were left to their own devices, continuing to play while no doubt shaking their heads in disbelief. Imagine what they're thinking during the band's Live Aid performance of "Bad," 11 minutes into a six-minute song: "You crazy #*%*#!"

2. The Hair Whisperer

In the late '80s, Bono got rid of his mullet and cut his hair into a shoulder-length pageboy. At first it was a jarring transition, until it became apparent that this hairstyle was the best bodily prop Bono ever had at his disposal, giving him more options than ever before or since. It started out innocuously enough, pulled back into a ponytail, but then it became a weapon whipping around his head, or sticking to the sweat on his face, causing Bono to compulsively run his fingers through his hair to smooth it away.

3. The Shackle

In the video for "With or Without You," Bono throws his arms straight up over his head and crosses them at the wrists for a literal interpretation of the line "My hands are tied/my body bruised..." Bono, I'd like to personally thank you for fueling my rock star fantasies with that particular visual.

4. The Rockette

U2 likes to make a big entrance when they come out to play for their fans, and nothing was bigger than the Zoo TV tour. Bono and his mates tossed off every last vestige of their '80s personas and came roaring into the '90s in a blaze of leather and flickering blue light from an enormous wall of television screens. The Edge strikes the first notes of "Zoo Station," and Bono, looking cooler than cool, rises out of the darkness and executes a series of high kicks that rival any of those performed by the famed residents of Radio City Music Hall.

5. The Boxer

How do you top Zoo TV? Why, with PopMart, of course. Another big entrance by the band as the song "Pop Muzik" blares over the loudspeakers, they enter the venue by walking through the crowd, tuxedoed bodyguards and huge entourage in tow. In his white robe, hood pulled over his eyes, Bono does his best "Macho" Comacho or "Boom Boom" Mancini, jabbing and prancing his way to the ring. And while it may take a few minutes for the crowd to notice, no one seems to care once they realize the muscles aren't real.

6. The Bull

This move was worthy enough to be a part of both the PopMart and Elevation tours, for the song "Until the End of the World." Bono's fingers are his props here, representing the horns of a charging bull as Bono and The Edge attempt to slay each other with rock 'n' roll. The fans are the lucky winners in this dramatic fight to the finish.

7. The Turkey

U2 appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman in support of All That You Can't Leave Behind, shortly after the 9/11 disaster. The band paid homage to the city by playing "New York." True to form, Bono changed the lyrics of the song to fit the occasion, which was touching until, in an effort to become the Statue of Liberty, Bono places his outstretched fingers behind his head to form her crown. Does he evoke the famous symbol of freedom, or poultry in heat? Tough call.

8. The Loaded Diaper

This move is most evident in the official "Beautiful Day" video, shot in and around the Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris, France. Anyone who's been a parent will recognize it immediately: Your very young child waddles up to you in a sort of half walk, half squat, clearly uncomfortable. With the camera at such a low angle, we get a most unfortunate view as Bono gives new meaning to the phrase "It's been all over you."

9. Crazy Samurai

During the Vertigo tour, Bono and Larry began the song "Love and Peace or Else" at the tip of the b-stage, while Adam and The Edge remained on the main stage. Larry plays the song on a single drum and cymbal, but at some point flees the scene and heads back to the safety of his kit. Bono takes the drumsticks and starts wailing away on that poor thing, doing his damnedest to smash it to bits. He gets so excited, he's also stomping his feet. Look out!

10. The Upper GI

There's a point in every U2 show that makes you wonder if Bono's pre-show burrito was a bad idea. He hunches over, grabbing his middle or pulling his jacket tighter to his body, and he's clearly feeling something, but what? The song, or the burrito? Let's hope, for all of our sakes, that it's the song.
