Saints Connection to U2

The Saints came to Miami to win last night and return home with a Super Bowl win. As the fans begin to sing their victory song “WHO-DAT” we can’t forget U2’s connection to New Orleans, the Superdome, and the Super Bowl.

In 2002, U2 gave what many still remember as one of the best halftime performances in Super Bowl history.  We launched a poll to see if the nation agreed once again voted the best half time show ever.

Writing at the Huffington Post, Shawn Amos recalls, “Less than five months after 9/11, U2 turned the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans into a place of worship. As the Irish band played their final song, ‘Where the Streets Have No Name,’ a giant banner was raised behind them displaying the names of the 2973 people who died during the 9/11 attacks. U2 used the banner during that year’s Elevation Tour but this televised version had added resonance and turned a mere sports game into massive statement of unity and resilience – something New Orleans would need three years later when Katrina hit.”

Then, in 2006, for the first home Saints game at the Superdome since Hurricane Katrina devastated the city, U2 performed with Green Day the single “The Saints Are Coming,” a moving rock anthem to mark that occasion. Add to this Edge’s work with Music Rising to get instruments to New Orleans’ musicians during post-Katrina years, it’s easy to postulate that U2 were cheering for the Saints as they marched to their first Super Bowl appearance and subsequent victory.

ALERT: U2 changes date of Giants show

U2 will perform on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford instead of the previously announced Friday, Sept. 25, date for their 360 Tour.

The group will still play its originally scheduled Thursday, Sept. 24, show.

The date change was caused by the rescheduled Jets NFL game on Sunday, Sept. 27, from 4:15 p.m. to 1 p.m. that day out of respect for the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur. The original game time provided enough time for the U2 to take down its staging.

Arthur Fogel Live Nation Tour promoter said "We have tried everything we could to work the production logistics to be able to get out of the stadium for the earlier game. But its just not possible."

Tickets for the Sept. 25 show will honored on Sept. 23. Refunds will be available through the point of purchase.

Visit www.U2.com for more information.

Giants Stadium is on Route 120 in the Meadowlands. Call 201-935-3900 or visit

Springsteen Half Time show needs you

Remember a couple of postings back I told you I may be working the half time show. Well its offical. I will be at Rayjay eating boxed lunch hanging out and waiting from my 12 minutes of fame. Would you like to see Bruce Springsteen's Super Bowl half time show up close and free?

Producers of the Feb. 1, half time show need about 2,000 "excited fans" to be on the field during the concert by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

Here's the catch: volunteers must be over 16, attend all rehearsals, register as part of a group of at least 10 and submit to a criminal background check. No recording devices are allowed.

Super Bowl 43 Halftime show

Coming to Tampa for the third time the Super Bowl Once again I am going to jump and work a couple of events.

The NFL Experience is the most exciting continuous event surrounding Super Bowl XLIII -- pro football's interactive fan festival offering participatory games, displays, entertainment attractions, kids' football clinics, free autograph sessions and the largest football card show ever. This will be a event that goes on all week. I have no clue what I will be doing yet.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will perform live on NBC in the Bridgestone Super Bowl XLIII Halftime Show at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. Now this is show time. I will be working on the halftime show for the rest of the month in January. Getting ready for 12 minutes. Practice begins later in the month. I have done this before its pretty fun. Having been in the business before I really like the whole settting up and show time experince.
