Death Penalty 2005

Today at 12:01AM California put to death Mr. Tookie Williams. His death was the latest in the series of death penalty cases coming to an end.

The idea that we still need to use the death penalty as a form of punishment is outrages.

Where did this concept start? The idea that because of this mans crimes we must put him to death was seen as a way to flush out the system of these “people” yea I said “these people”

Tookie is not a saint and he should never have seen the light of day. However if he could have done something anything to better himself and learn from his ways, than we should look at other ways of punishment; today we put a man to death, for a crime of death.

Today we step backwards into his shoes and committed a crime against man. Today we did nothing to learn from this wrongful death.

Today his victims are no better off because of this. This is not about Mr. Williams.

This is about every death penalty case. Today we stepped backwards 1000 years. I wonder what would have been different today, if Jesus was not put to death for his “crimes” I wonder!
