U2 to perform new single at Brits

The track is taken from the Irish band's forthcoming album No Line on the Horizon, due out in the spring.

It is U2's first LP since 2004's How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, which picked up eight Grammys in the US.

Brits committee chairman Ged Doherty said: "Their addition to this year's show makes it possibly the best we have ever had."
The awards ceremony will be screened live on ITV1. It is sponsored by MasterCard. The other confirmed performer is Pet Shop Boys, recipient of the outstanding contribution to music award. "We're thrilled to be able to confirm that U2 have chosen the Brits for their first global TV performance on their new album," said Ged Doherty, chairman of the Brits Committee and Sony Music Entertainment U.K. chairman and CEO, in a statement. "Their addition to the line-up for this year's show makes it possibly the best we have ever had. This cements The Brits as one of the biggest TV events in the world." The band has previously won seven Brit awards, five of them for best international group. The nominations for next month's awards will be unveiled Jan. 20.
